What You Should Know about Dental Sedation in Red Deer

Put Your Mind at Ease Prior to Your Visit
Many people experience feelings of anxiety over visiting the dentist. If you fall under this category, you can put your mind somewhat at ease in the knowledge that Appleway Dental Clinics offers dental sedation in Red Deer and surrounding areas. Dental sedation can be used for many different types of dental procedures. If your teeth are sensitive or you require extensive dental work or several procedures at once, dental sedation may be right for you. Appleway Dental Clinics offers both IV (intravenous) and oral sedation in our offices.

IV Sedation: Administered into the Blood Stream
IV sedation is an extremely deep form of sedation in which the medication is administered straight into the patient’s blood stream using an IV. Although the patient remains conscious during the procedure, they come out of this form of sedation with little to no memory of the procedure itself. Only dentists who are qualified to provide IV sedation are allowed to administer this type of medication and determine if a patient is a proper candidate for it by viewing their medical and dental history prior to the procedure.

Oral Sedation: Medication is Administered Orally
Oral sedation is similar to IV sedation, except the patient is sedated with oral medication prior to a procedure instead of medication being administered through an IV. While it’s considered a deeper form of sedation than nitrous oxide, it’s less when compared with IV sedation. However, it still requires the patient to arrange proper transportation to and from the appointment.
