Appleway Dental Clinics Answers Questions about Dental Care

Appleway Dental Clinics is dedicated to educating our patients about proper dental care to ensure a lifetime of strong, healthy, beautiful smiles. We’ve taken the time to answer some of our frequently asked questions. Should you not find the answer to your specific question listed on this page, please feel free to contact us to learn more.

Q. How often should I visit the dentist?
A. Regardless of age, everyone (children, teens, adults) should visit the dentist for regular check-ups at least once every six months. If you’re at a greater risk for oral cancer or periodontal (gum) disease, it may be necessary to visit more than twice a year. We’ll help you determine what’s necessary for achieving your optimal dental health.

Q. How often should I brush my teeth?
A. You should be brushing your teeth at least twice per day. Brushing your teeth removes bacteria-causing plaque to keep your teeth, gums, and mouth healthy and clean. We recommend using a soft-bristle toothbrush and a toothpaste that contains fluoride. Brushing twice per day will cause normal wear-and-tear on your toothbrush. It’s recommended that you change your toothbrush at least every three months. If you have periodontal disease, it may be a good idea to change your toothbrush every four to six weeks to help prevent the spread of bacteria.

Q. When should I take my child for his or her first dental visit?
A. It’s generally recommended that children should visit the dentist around their first birthday or at least six months after the arrival of their first tooth. The first visit is a chance to familiarize them with the dental office to create a positive experience so they feel comfortable coming back for regular visits. Appleway Dental Clinics offers pediatric dentistry in the Red Deer area for children of all ages.

Q. How do dental implants work?
A. If you’re missing teeth, dental implants are used to provide a permanent, fixed alternative to complete or partial dentures. Artificial tooth roots constructed of titanium, dental implants are surgically inserted into your jawbone. Dental crowns are usually placed over the implants to help restore the aesthetics and functionality of your natural teeth. Dental implants are not recommended for everyone. Please contact us to schedule a consultation to determine if they’re right for your specific dental needs.

Q. Why should I have my teeth whitened in your office instead of doing it myself?
A. If you want to achieve long-lasting results, we encourage our patients to consider professional teeth whitening treatments versus all of those tempting over-the-counter whitening strips, pens, trays, etc. Our treatments offer a more effective solution because they’re more powerful and customized for you. Appleway Dental Clinics offers both in-office whitening systems and at-home whitening kits to help you brighten your smile.

Q. What’s the difference between dental crowns and bridges?
A. Dental bridges are used to help “bridge” gaps left from missing teeth in your smile, while dental crowns are usually used to cover up misshapen or discoloured teeth. Crowns help restore your teeth’s natural shape, size, appearance, and strength and may be used to help secure dental bridges and/or cover dental implants.

Q. Do you offer Invisalign® treatments?
A. Yes, Appleway Dental Clinics offers Invisalign® treatments. Invisalign® works a little differently than traditional orthodontics. Instead of using brackets and wires to reposition your teeth with braces, Invisalign® uses a series of plastic aligner trays that are clear and custom-made for each patient. However, Invisalign® is not recommended for everyone. Contact us to find out if it’s right for you.

Q. Do you offer emergency dental services?
A. Yes, Appleway Dental Clinics offers emergency dental services in Red Deer and surrounding areas. Whether you’ve experienced a knocked out tooth, a cut in your mouth, or any other dental injury, please contact us immediately to determine our availability. We also offer TMJ treatments, root canal procedures, and wisdom tooth extractions for your convenience.
